Write
something
amazing
ShyEditor is the AI writing studio for novelists.
Trusted by over 20,000 writers

How it works
From idea to finished book
Not a chatbot bolted onto a text editor. A purpose-built writing environment where the AI, your knowledge base, and your prose work together.
Build your story before you write it
Start with a plan instead of a blank page. ShyEditor takes you from premise to chapter-by-chapter outline in a single sitting.
- Describe your premise and the Story Engine drafts the synopsis and chapter plan. Keep what works, regenerate the rest
- The knowledge base keeps every character, place, and event at hand, so no detail gets lost as the book grows
- Already mid-draft? Import it and the knowledge base builds itself

Keep the words coming
Write in a clean, distraction-free editor. When you get stuck, press Tab and ShyEditor suggests the next sentence in your voice.
- Suggestions follow your story, not just the last sentence
- Continue a scene or rephrase a clunky line without leaving the page
- The grammar checker knows your invented names are not typos
- Word goals and streaks keep you coming back

Get the feedback beta readers are too polite to give
Ask for a critique of one chapter, or hand over the whole book and get back a full editorial letter, the kind writers usually wait weeks for.
- Covers everything from plot logic to prose style, quoting straight from your own pages
- Tells you what already works, so you don't revise away your strengths
- Ranks every problem by severity, then builds a step-by-step revision plan

Ship a manuscript you're proud of
Pick a format, choose which chapters to include, and export. The formatting is handled for you.
- One-click presets for novels, APA, MLA, and more. Fonts, spacing, and layout are all configurable
- The marketability report includes comparable titles and a one-page synopsis for your query letter
- Share any chapter with a direct link. Beta readers can just click and read

Story-aware AI
Ask your book anything
Generic chatbots forget your protagonist’s name by message ten. This one never does.
Ask it to check your timeline, track a character across ten chapters, find a plot hole, or help you figure out what happens next.
Yes, one conflict. In Chapter 3 the festival falls on the night of the new moon, but Chapter 7 opens “two days later” under a full moon. Either move the festival or change the opening of Chapter 7.
Festival organizer introduced in Chapter 3. Knows the city’s tunnel network. Mentioned in chapters 3, 5, and 7.

ShyEditor takes care of research, grammar, formatting, and consistency. You do the writing only you can do.
Readers can tell
AI text reads like AI text. ShyEditor learns your voice, so your book sounds like you.
AI has no taste
It can tell you the pacing drops in act two. It can't tell you what your book should be about.

FAQ
Common questions
Will the AI write my novel for me?
It can draft a scene or outline your chapters when you ask it to, but it is a tool, not a ghostwriter. You decide what it works on, and you decide what stays. The books that come out of ShyEditor are written by their authors.
Is my writing used to train AI models?
No. Your writing is never used to train our models or anyone else's, and our AI providers are not permitted to train on it either. When ShyEditor learns your writing style, that analysis is private to your account and only shapes your own suggestions. Your words stay yours.
What are AI credits and how far do they go?
Credits are only spent on AI. A rephrase, an autocomplete you accept, a chat question, or a chapter critique costs 1 credit; big jobs cost more, like 50 for the full-book review. Writing, grammar checking, and the automatic AI advice never cost credits. You get 100 when you sign up, free accounts refresh with 20 per month, and Pro includes 500 per month.
Can I import the draft I already have?
Yes. Import DOCX, TXT, or Markdown when you create a project. For novels, ShyEditor can also read the imported text and fill your knowledge base with the characters, places, and events it finds.
Does ShyEditor work offline?
Yes. Your writing is stored locally in your browser, so you can keep working without a connection. Changes sync automatically when you are back online. AI features need a connection.
Is there a mobile app or real-time collaboration?
Not yet. ShyEditor is a web app, and sharing is read-only: you can send anyone a link to a chapter and they can read it without an account, which works well for beta readers.
Can I export a properly formatted book?
Yes, with Pro. Presets format the whole book in one click, and everything from fonts to title pages to which chapters to include is configurable. Export to DOCX, PDF, or Markdown. The free plan exports to TXT.
